Roy Lichtenstein
Born in New York in 1923, Roy Lichtenstein is now one of America's best contemporary artists. Lichtenstein didn't start his famous comic strip style paintings until the mid 1960's, originally painting mostly western themes. He joined the army for three years and then became a professor in upstate New York, later moving to Rutgers. He married Isabel Wislon and had several children. This pop artist is best known for his innovative and commercial designs, like Drowning Girl and Whaam. His work was heavily influenced by his interest in advertising.
